Data last changed:

Two perfect starts, one goal difference, and a crowded chase

Al Hilal and Al Nassr have separated themselves at the top of the Saudi Pro League, both on 12 points from four matches and both still perfect. Al Hilal leads only because of goal difference, while Al Qadsiah has moved into third on 9 points. Behind them, Al Kholood and Al Ittihad remain unbeaten, while the bottom four are still searching for their first wins.

Al Hilal and Al Nassr have turned the top into a two-team race

The clearest story in the Saudi Pro League round 4 is not simply that Al Hilal won or that Al Nassr won. It is that both have now won all four of their matches.

Al Hilal’s 5-1 victory over Al Khaleej was enough to take its goal difference to +12, with 15 goals scored and 3 conceded. Al Nassr also stayed perfect after a 2-1 win over Al Taawoun, leaving it with 12 goals for, 3 against and a +9 goal difference.

So the Saudi Pro League standings have a very simple look at the top: Al Hilal and Al Nassr both have 12 points, but Al Hilal sits first because its goal difference is better.

Al Hilal also has the unusual benefit of having added another win from the postponed Round 3 schedule. Its 3-0 victory over Al Ahli on Tuesday 1 September was the postponed Round 3 fixture, not a Round 4 match. That result is included in the standings after Round 4 and helped Al Hilal reach four wins from four.

Al Nassr’s 2-1 result against Al Taawoun kept the gap at the top exactly where it was: no points separate the two leaders.

Four matches are not a season, but the opening table has already produced a clear split between the two perfect clubs and the teams chasing them.

Diriyah has the league’s best defensive record from sixth place

Diriyah’s 3-0 win at Al Ettifaq was one of the most significant results for the middle of the standings, but the more revealing number is the two goals it has conceded.

That is the best defensive record in the league after four matches. Diriyah has conceded fewer goals than Al Hilal, Al Nassr and Al Qadsiah, each of whom has conceded 3.

The striking part is where that defence sits in the table. Diriyah is sixth on 7 points, behind the two perfect leaders, Al Qadsiah on 9, and the unbeaten Al Kholood and Al Ittihad on 8.

Its 5 goals scored and 2 conceded give Diriyah a +3 goal difference. The 3-0 victory over Al Ettifaq was therefore more than a move up the table; it reinforced a defensive record that currently belongs to the club sitting sixth.

Behind Al Qadsiah, Al Kholood and Al Ittihad have also kept their unbeaten records. Al Kholood moved to 8 points after beating Al Ahli 3-1, while Al Ittihad reached the same total after a 0-0 draw with Al Fateh.

The two clubs are separated by goal difference. Al Kholood has +3, compared with +2 for Al Ittihad.

Round 4 was a sharp change from the draw-heavy previous round

The contrast with Round 3 is difficult to miss. Round 3 produced five draws in eight matches played. Round 4 produced only two draws across all nine matches.

That change affected the shape of the table as much as the individual results did. Round 4 produced clear winners in seven matches, while only Al Hazem and Al Shabab, and Al Fateh and Al Ittihad, shared the points.

The results also included several decisive scorelines. Al Hilal beat Al Khaleej 5-1, Al Qadsiah defeated Al Faisaly 3-1, Al Kholood beat Al Ahli 3-1 and Diriyah won 3-0 away to Al Ettifaq.

The shift from five draws in Round 3 to two in Round 4 gave the Saudi Pro League results a very different shape. More matches produced a clear winner, and that allowed several clubs to make bigger moves in the standings.

Al Qadsiah strengthens third while Al Ahli drops to seventh

Al Qadsiah is the first club outside the perfect top two. Its 3-1 win over Al Faisaly took it to 9 points from four matches, with 8 goals scored and 3 conceded.

That gives Al Qadsiah a +5 goal difference and third place, three points behind the leaders.

Al Ahli, meanwhile, sits seventh on 6 points. Its 3-1 defeat to Al Kholood was followed by the 3-0 defeat to Al Hilal in the postponed Round 3 fixture, which is part of its record after four matches. Al Ahli has scored 6 goals and conceded 6, leaving its goal difference at 0.

NEOM is also on 6 points after losing 1-0 to Al Riyadh, while Al Ettifaq remains on 6 points following its 3-0 defeat to Diriyah.

That creates a tight section of the Saudi Pro League standings. Al Ahli, NEOM and Al Ettifaq are all on 6 points, while Diriyah is only one point ahead on 7.

The bottom four are still without a win

The actual bottom four now form a distinct group: Al Taawoun, Al Fateh, Abha and Al Faisaly.

Al Taawoun and Al Fateh are level on 2 points. Al Taawoun lost 2-1 to Al Nassr and has scored 3 goals while conceding 5, leaving it with a -2 goal difference. Al Fateh drew 0-0 with Al Ittihad and has scored only 1 goal in four matches, against 5 conceded.

Abha and Al Faisaly sit at the bottom on 1 point each. Abha lost 3-2 to Al Fayha and has scored 4 goals while conceding 10. Al Faisaly also has 4 goals scored and 10 conceded after its 3-1 defeat to Al Qadsiah.

Both therefore have a -6 goal difference.

None of the four has recorded a win after four matches. Their records differ, but the common feature is clear: Al Taawoun and Al Fateh have 2 points each, while Abha and Al Faisaly have 1.

Above them, Al Riyadh has 4 points in 12th, Al Fayha has 4 in 11th and Al Hazem has 4 in 10th, showing how quickly the picture changes once a club moves out of the bottom four.

Al Khaleej and Al Shabab are still waiting for a first win

Al Khaleej and Al Shabab also remain without victories, although their points totals keep them above the bottom four.

Al Khaleej has 3 points after three draws and one defeat. Its 5-1 loss to Al Hilal left it with 2 goals scored and 6 conceded, for a -4 goal difference.

Al Shabab also has 3 points, with three draws and one defeat. Its 1-1 draw with Al Hazem left it on 5 goals scored and 7 conceded, a -2 goal difference.

The two clubs share the same points total but have different goal differences. They also sit directly above Al Taawoun and Al Fateh, who have 2 points each.

At the other end, Al Kholood and Al Ittihad remain unbeaten on 8 points, while Al Qadsiah has 9. Above all of them, Al Hilal and Al Nassr are perfect on 12.

That gives the league an unusually clear early hierarchy: two clubs at full points, a chasing group close behind, and four clubs still looking for their first victory.

The table can still change considerably, but one number already stands out from the middle of it: Diriyah has conceded only 2 goals, the fewest in the league, while sitting sixth.
